Top 10 Best King Kong/Godzilla Movies of All Time You Must Watch

“Godzilla vs. Kong” is one of the most eagerly awaited spin-offs from Warner Bros.’ upcoming phalanx of 2021 films that will be released in theaters and on HBO Max.

These are the top ten Godzilla and King Kong streaming films, ahead of their theatrical and HBO Max premieres:

Along with returning from Godzilla Vs. Kong are Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, along with Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe from the original Godzilla movie.

Two Monarch scientists are Drs. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) and Mark Russell (Chandler). Eco-terrorists abduct Emma and her daughter Madison (Brown), with the intention of rousing all the Titans, including Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidarah. Mark Russell is enlisted by Drs. Serizawa and Graham to assist in locating the mother and daughter. Emma is one of the terrorists, after all, and they unleash more monsters across the globe in the meantime. Emma realizes her mistakes and makes an unsuccessful attempt to persuade the rest of her team to stop when the monsters and their destruction prove to be too strong for her to contain.

The one thing strong enough to defeat all these monsters? Naturally, Godzilla. Following a series of monster fights in which Godzilla appears to have defeated Ghidarah, the remaining Titans submit to their monarch. The monster king. When all of the surviving Titans reach Skull Island at the end of the movie, cave paintings depicting Titan fights, including one involving—wait for it—Kong and Godzilla, are displayed, much like in Kong: Skull Island. Which brings us to Kong vs. Godzilla.

Millie Bobby Brown plays Madison again in Godzilla Vs. Kong, and Chandler plays her father Mark Russell, who also appears in the film. Emma, her mother, was sacrificed to the Titans in King of the Monsters. Brown and Chandler are the only major characters from the other films to return, despite references to other characters (Shun Oguri plays Ren Serizawa, son of Dr. Ichiro Serizawa).

Kong: Skull Island, which stars Marvel favorites Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John C. Reilly in the lead roles, is further evidence that either there are very few actors in Hollywood, or every actor has ever appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the 1973 film Skull Island, Bill Randa (John Goodman) leads a group of scientists and soldiers who, along with Lt. Col. Preston Packard (Jackson), James Conrad (Hiddleston), and Mason Weaver (Brie Larson), travel to Skull Island to look for signs of prehistoric life.

In addition to the enormous ape, they discover Hank Marlow (Reilly), a World War II pilot who has been residing on the island since his plane was destroyed in a dogfight in 1944, together with the local Iwi tribe. According to Marlow, Kong is a calm animal who defends the Iwi from underground beings known as Skullcrawlers, who have wiped out the remaining giant apes and pose a threat to the Iwi’s continued existence. A fight breaks out between the investigative team members who want to kill Kong and those who want to protect him. Randa and Packard are killed in the end, and Kong is left behind as the others flee.

At the conclusion of the movie, Mothra, Rodan, Gozdilla, and Gidorah are among the other legendary creatures battling it out in cave paintings that Monarch finds.

The 31st entry into the Godzilla franchise has an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes and is one of Godzilla’s most critically-acclaimed films. Also known as Godzilla Resurgence, the film is a satisfying return to the character’s roots after a decade of underwhelming movies.

Godzilla, an American reimagining of the venerable Japanese kaiju series, is initially shrouded in mystery as nuclear engineer Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) investigates the cause of a reactor meltdown that claimed his wife’s life fifteen years earlier. The culprits are soon discovered to be enormous monsters that have been hibernating for centuries beneath the surface of the earth. After trying to save himself and his family from two enormous bug-like MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) that are headed toward a newly awakened Godzilla, Joe’s son Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) finds himself in the front lines.

The most significant addition to the MonsterVerse made by this movie is the first-ever appearance of Project Monarch, a covert organization that has been tracking the enormous creatures for decades. Dr. Ishirō Serizawa (Ken Watanabe) and Dr. Vivienne Graham (Sally Hawkins), two of Monarch’s top scientists, will reappear later in the series, as will David Strathairn’s Admiral William Stenz, the Naval officer in charge of the military’s monster hunt.

The second remake of the 1933 film, this version is a period drama monster adventure directed by Peter Jackson. The film is known for having at the time, a record-breaking budget of $207 million, and Andy Serkis’ motion-capture performance as Kong.

The 22nd installment of the Godzilla franchise is one of the best films in the series. The film is the debut of Destoroyah, a monster that eventually mutates and matures into a creature larger than Godzilla. Destoroyah has only made one appearance on the big screen; however, it’s still highly regarded as one of Godzilla’s best villains.

With Jessica Lange directing and Dino De Laurentiis producing, the 1976 Kong reboot brings everyone’s favorite giant ape back to life, this time in New York City. John Guillermin was the director. “King Kong” was not well received by critics, but it did win a Special Achievement Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for Best Sound and Best Cinematography. Naturally, it was also a huge hit for the emerging Lange. HBO Max is now offering streaming for it.

The much-loved Jun Fukuda film “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla” is available for streaming on Criterion Channel. The Criterion Channel describes the film as follows: “In this Jun Fukuda-directed picture, Godzilla’s evil twin Mechagodzilla first reared its head. The enduringly popular villain, a robot created by aliens to take over Earth, has since been brought back to life multiple times by Toho Studios. This movie captures the spirit of the Godzilla films from the 1960s with the aid of sincere direction, amazing pyrotechnics, and cameos from seasoned genre actors.

For sheer originality, Ichiro Honda’s monster movie masterpiece is unmatched. It also marked the beginning of a massive media franchise that is owned by Japanese studio Toho. Criterion Channel describes the film as “a remarkably humane and melancholic drama, made in Japan at a time when the country was reeling from nuclear attack and H-bomb testing in the Pacific,” and it is currently available for streaming.

Nearly 30 sequels were inspired by its raging radioactive beast, which tragically embodied the fears of a whole population and became a beloved worldwide symbol of destruction.

The entire Kong franchise began with the 1933 pre-Code original “King Kong,” which starred Fay Wray in a performance fit for a movie star. A massive ape that was shipped from mysterious Skull Island for display in the United States breaks free from his bonds and carries a stunning blonde to the top of the Empire State Building. You can watch it right now on HBO Max.

We’ve been waiting for this fight. The two most famous characters from the MonsterVerse will square off in the soon-to-be released Godzilla vs. Kong, which takes place two years after Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Monarch will undoubtedly play a part as well, since Zhang Ziyi, who played twin Monarch scientists in King of the Monsters (a playful homage to the original Japanese Mothra films), is joining Chandler and Brown, who are both returning. Although the plot is currently unknown, what is known is that Godzilla is acting strangely; instead of acting as the planet’s stoic protector, he is suddenly attacking cities all over the world, seemingly for no apparent reason.

“The epic clash between the two titans—initiated by unseen forces—is only the beginning of the mystery that lies deep within the Earth’s core,” reads the official plot synopsis. Therefore, it is likely that we will witness the revelation of a sinister, obscure force (perhaps a new monster or another human organization) as the one who effectively provoked these two symbols into exchanging blows. Godzilla vs. Kong opens in theaters and on HBO Max on March 31.
