“Mary & George” is the newest outrageous historical psychodrama from Starz, and it is based on Benjamin Woolley’s nonfiction book The King’s Assassin. It takes place in 17th-century England and is a story of political intrigue, seduction, and using any means necessary to gain power.

The story had a contemporary twist for executive producer and star Juliaanne Moore, who plays Mary Villiers, Countess of Buckingham. It is comparable to HBO’s Succession in that both shows focus on people and their relationships, ambitions, and needs.

The details of Mary’s early life are scant. The real documentation doesn’t start until she is left nearly penniless after being left widowed by Sir George Villiers with four children: Susan, John (the heir), George, and Christopher. At that point, she starts to fight for her life.

“The incredible true story of Mary Villiers, who shaped her charming and attractive son George to entice King James I and become his all-powerful lover, serves as the inspiration for Mary & George. The two became the most wealthy, titled, powerful, and well-respected individuals the English court had ever seen through outrageous scheming, and they also became the King’s most trusted advisors. The stakes could not have been higher, with outside forces threatening England’s standing in the world and rioters taking to the streets to oppose the King.

“Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, conspired with criminals, and clawed her way into the heart of the Establishment, making it her own. Armed with her ruthless political steel and ready to stop at nothing. The historical psychodrama Mary & George tells the story of an eccentric mother and son who plotted, wooed, and murdered their way to the top of King James I’s bed in England.”

Moore added to Yahoo! Entertainment, saying, “I believe Mary views George as a sort of stand-in for herself. She wants what’s best for him and herself because she sees what’s possible for him.He eventually becomes her partner, of course, and she views him as such, so their relationship shifts from being one of mother and son to one of “oh, we’re in this together and we’re going to go as a set through this.” Though obviously flawed, I believe that they are characters who are somewhat aware of one another.”

Season three of the gripping crime and family drama continues on Fridays at midnight on the STARZ app. On linear, new episodes will debut on STARZ Fridays at 8:00 PM ET/PT in the U.S. and at 9:00 PM ET in Canada.

Black Mafia Family, or BMF, made a triumphant return with the March premiere of its most recent season on Starz. The true story of brothers Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory (Demetrius Flenory, Jr.) and Terry “Southwest T” Flenory (Da’Vinchi), who left their neighborhood in southwest Detroit in the 1980s to found the Black Mafia Family, one of the most powerful drug trafficking and money laundering rings in America, serves as the basis for the crime drama series. In BMF: Season 3, the action takes place in the early 1990s, with Terry remaining in Detroit to ensure the prosperity of their home base while Meech relocates to Atlanta to grow the family’s criminal enterprise. But the brothers are going to face more challenges and vicious adversaries than they have ever faced because of the emergence of new competition in Detroit and other factors in their individual personal lives. Watch all of the amazing story as new BMF episodes air every month, exclusively on Starz.

The last two episodes of the Starz Original crime drama series will air early this month, marking the series’ official conclusion. The third season of Hightown chronicles the adventures of Jackie Quiñones (portrayed by Monica Raymund), a Fishery Service Agent in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Although she is no longer part of the local force or the wagon, she is still determined to expose the murky, dark side of organized crime on Cape Cod. As Jackie searches for the person responsible for the death of a sex worker and attempts to save a woman who has gone missing, her former partners Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale) and Alan Santille (Dohn Norwood) are fighting to take down local drug cartels, unintentionally creating a path for more formidable gangsters to enter the conflict. All of the season’s main plotlines come to a dramatic head in these final two episodes as everyone engages in a high-stakes final showdown.
