There is only one stat holiday this month: March 29, Good Friday

There are five Canadian stat holidays on the federal level:

December 25, Christmas Day

In Quebec, Easter Monday is a stat holiday instead of Good Friday. In Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada day is known as Memorial Day.

Every year on March 1st, a large number of Welsh-descended Canadians or others with Welsh ties celebrate St David’s Day. On this day, daffodils or leeks attached to clothes are common sights, as is the Welsh flag.

It is not a public holiday on St. David’s Day. Companies open for business at regular hours.

In the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, St. Patrick’s Day is observed as a public holiday on the Monday closest to March 17 every year. The narrative of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the incidents in his life—including his suffering—prior to his crucifixion are the main subjects of the service readings.

Children can be included in church services through specific Sunday school classes, children’s songs and hymns, and blessings. There are those in the Catholic faith and other Christian groups who spend a lot of time studying the account of Jesus Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection. On Palm Sunday, a few university chapel choirs perform unique music.

Purim marks the Jewish people’s deliverance from a royal death decree around the fourth century BCE, as told in the Book of Esther. Many Jewish Canadians celebrate it on the 14th day of the month of Adar in the Jewish calendar, which is in February or March in the Gregorian calendar.

Purim is not a public holiday. It falls on Sunday, 24 March 2024 and most businesses follow regular Sunday opening hours in Canada.

Even if they do not routinely attend church during the rest of the year, Christians are nevertheless welcome to attend special services. For many Christians, Good Friday is a day of solitary prayer and sadness. Statues, paintings, and crosses may be covered in cloth that is either gray, purple, or black, and the candles are frequently extinguished.
