The famous American architect Bertrand Goldberg designed the “draped structure” concrete shell tower at Providence Hospital in the mid-1980s. Goldberg is best known for designing Chicago’s famous Marina City complex. The tower rises independently of the base building, creating an abstract and poetic interface. This also makes the hospital stronger in case of earthquakes or hurricanes.
