Choose an auspicious moving day
it is essential to select an auspicious moving day when relocating to a new home. Cheng Day (”Cheng” means achieving in everything), Horse Day (sixth day of a lunar month), Ecliptic Day (a day good for everything), and San He Day (triple harmony day) will be chosen as the lucky day for moving. The unlucky days, such as Bai Day (a day of failure), Break Day (a day of misfortune), Heidao Day (a day that is bad for everything), and other taboo days in folklore must be avoided. If a day offends a family member’s zodiac sign, it is unsuitable for moving.
Move in before sunset
It is preferable to move into the new home in the morning or at noon, as opposed to after sunset and at night. Otherwise, it has the Feng Shui meaning of working day and night, leaving early and returning late.
Before moving into the new house, clean it and leave the doors and windows open for two or three days to ventilate and bring in auspicious air.
When moving into a new home, you should, if at all possible, set off fireworks to ward off evil spirits.
The items to be moved out of the new home will be handled by third parties, whereas the items to be moved into the new home will be handled by your family.
Do not decorate your bedrooms and living room with cold and white hues, including white curtains and sheets. Instead, you should choose red and festive colors to expel the Yin, increase the Yang, and enhance your family’s good fortune.
Do not relocate if you have a pregnant or newborn family member. If you must relocate, ensure that the pregnant woman does not participate in the process and that she wears a Buddha figure or fetus protection charm. On the day of the move, you may boil water, cook, and worship during a fortunate hour.
Do not enter with nothing in hand. On the day of the move, hold onto some belongings or valuables and never enter the new home empty-handed or while looking back.
Do not take an afternoon nap in the new home, or you will become susceptible to illness. As a symbol of waking up after sleep on the night of the moving day, it is customary to lie down for a few minutes and then resume work.
Relocating is one of the most significant life events. Ksitigarbha, the Chinese deity in charge of hell, would open hell’s gate on the first day of the seventh lunar month to release hungry ghosts and close it on the thirty-first day of the same month. This month is thought to be unlucky, so Chinese people do not hold important events or move during this period. As the owner, you should be inclined to believe it, especially if you were born in the year of the Tiger and clash with the seventh lunar month, which belongs to the Monkey. In this case, you should not move into a new home during the ghost month, but rather during a different month.
In general, individuals would avoid moving during the ghost month. But if it is impracticable, how to elicit blessings and reduce the adverse effects of moving in ghost month by making use of Feng Shui rituals, or placing Feng Shui items? If you do have to move in the ghost month, you are suggested to hold a cleaning ceremony and place the “God of Wealth” to bring in good fortune and wipe out evil spirits, and move in auspicious times of an auspicious day to minimize the adverse effects of moving in the ghost month.
1. Bring one or two household wares to the new house before the seventh lunar month, such as brooms and other cleaning appliances for the purpose of cleaning and wiping out bad luck.
2. Hang a string of Five-Emperor Coins on the front door handle or place it on the doorsill outside the house from left to right (in the order of entering). If it is placed on the mat inside the house, also arrange from left to right (in the order of going out). After that, you can feel free to move other things.
3. Clean the house on an auspicious day before moving
One week before entering into the new house, choose an auspicious day to open all the windows, scent from inside to outside with wormwood or incense, and then close the windows. If this is impractical, you can also keep all the lights on for one night before moving into the house, which will have the same effect.
4. Put a brazier in front of the house
When moving into the new house, everyone has to cross the brazier to enter. Fire, with the meaning of purifying, can dispel all demons and ghosts. Fire can also intensify and make your family more and more vigorous. So remember to put a small brazier (allow you to cross) in front of the door before entering the house.
5. Boil a kettle
Listen to the sound of boiling water on the moving date. You can put eight coins in the boiling water for the lucking meaning of living in a gold house.
